The steel material was actually brought from Mumbai. This story dates back to September 1901, when the steel material was purchased from Richardson & Cruddas Engineering Company in Mumbai at a significant cost of 444,000 Indian Rupees.

In the first phase, the steel material was transported by railway to Dargai Railway Station, and then, with the help of mules, it was carried across the Malakand Pass to reach Chakdara.

In September 1901, construction of this steel bridge began at Chakdara, and in eighteen months, it was completed in March 1903. The initial inauguration of the construction work took place in January 1903 by the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, which is why the bridge was initially known as the Connaught Bridge.

When the steel bridge was fully completed in March 1903, it was officially inaugurated by Major Harold Arthur Dean, the Chief Commissioner of the then North-West Frontier Province. The bridge then began to be used regularly for traffic.

چکدرہ فولادی پُل. 

دوستوں اس وقت آپ چکدرہ فولادی پُل کے مناظر دیکھ رہے ہیں .یقیناً آپ سب کے ذہن میں یہ سوالات اُٹھ رہے ہونگے. کہ اتنا باری فولاد کہاں سے اور کیسے یہاں لایا گیا ہوگا جس سے یہ فولادی پُل تعمیر کی گئ. تو دوستوں ان سوالات کے جوابات ہم دیں گے. یہ فولادی میٹیرئیل اصل میں ممبئی سے لایا گیا. یہ کہانی ستمبر 1901 کی ہے  جب ممبئی میں واقع  رچرڈسن اینڈ کروڈاس انجنئیرنگ کمپنی  سے یہ فولادی میٹیرئیل   444000 ہندوستانی روپے کی خطیر رقم خرچ کرکے خریدا گیا .پہلے مرحلے پر ریلوے کے ذریعے یہ فولادی میٹیرئیل درگئی ریلوے سٹیشن پُہنچایا گیا اور پھر خچّروں کی مدد سے درہ ملاکنڈ پار کرکے چکدرہ پُہنچایا گیا. ستمبر 1901 میں چکدرہ کے مُقام پر اس سٹیل پُل کی تعمیر شروع ہوئی اور آٹھارہ مہینے میں مارچ 1903 میں یہ پُل تعمیر ہوئی. اس پُل کی تعمیراتی کام کا افتتاح پہلے مرحلے پر جنوری 1903 میں ڈیوک اینڈ ڈیچز آف کناٹ نے کیا اسلئے پہلے پہل یہ پُل کُناٹ پُل کے نام سے مشہور ہوا. پھر جب  مارچ 1903 میں اس فولادی پُل کی تعمیر مکمل ہوئی تو اسکا باقاعدہ افتتاح اُس وقت کے صوبہ سرحد کے چیف کمشنر  میجر ہیرالڈ آرتھر ڈین نے کیا. اور یہ پُل باقاعدگی سے آمدرفت کے لئے استعمال ہونے لگا.
